We are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Coordinator to join a mining operation in Northern New York. In this mid-senior role, you will focus on workplace safety, MSHA compliance, and promoting a positive safety culture across all departments. Relocation assistance is available. The ideal candidate has at least 3 years of relevant experience and strong organizational and communication skills.
Safety Program Development:
Develop, implement, and improve safety policies, procedures, and programs in accordance with MSHA and other federal, state, and local regulations.
Conduct routine risk assessments and recommend control measures to minimize hazards.
Training & Education:
Provide safety training sessions, toolbox talks, and onboarding orientations for all employees.
Maintain a library of training materials, bulletins, and records.
Workplace Inspections & Accident Investigation:
Inspect work environments both underground and on the surface to identify potential risks.
Investigate accidents, near-misses, and safety incidents; prepare incident reports and follow-up action plans.
Accompany MSHA inspectors during quarterly visits and address any findings.
Regulatory Compliance & Reporting:
Stay informed of MSHA regulations and other applicable health & safety laws.
Assist with weekly and monthly health & safety reporting; maintain organized records of training, inspections, investigations, and compliance documentation.
Medical & Hearing Test Coordination:
Schedule and track required annual physicals, hearing tests, and other mandated health screenings.
Cross-Department Collaboration:
Work with operations, maintenance, engineering, and other departments to integrate safety best practices into daily workflows.
Promote a positive safety culture through regular communication and collaboration.
Other Duties:
Perform other reasonable duties as needed to sustain a safe work environment.
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of experience in workplace safety and compliance, preferably within mining or heavy industry.
Hands-on familiarity with MSHA regulations is strongly preferred.
Education & Certifications:
All education levels considered; an MSHA Trainer Certification is preferred.
Technical Skills:
Proficient with Microsoft Office for written communication, tracking, and reporting.
Ability to use safety management software or databases is a plus.
Soft Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and maintain detailed records.
Collaborative mindset and ability to build rapport with cross-functional teams.
