Structural Section Head - Lexington, Kentucky

Position Summary:

A top-tier engineering team is seeking a Transportation Structures Department Manager to lead a high-performing department in Lexington, Kentucky. The ideal candidate will be responsible for driving business development, managing project teams, overseeing department operations, and ensuring financial success. This is a senior leadership role offering growth, impact, and strategic responsibility.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead business development efforts and coordinate with office leadership on strategic growth plans

• Grow market presence through marketing and client engagement

• Manage departmental budgets and resource allocation

• Provide technical oversight and mentorship to project managers and engineering staff

• Produce and review high-quality technical proposals

• Hire, train, and manage section staff, including performance reviews and career development

• Set expectations, conduct 1:1 meetings, provide feedback, and coach team members for performance and growth

Must-Have Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field

• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)

• Minimum 10 years of experience in structural/horizontal bridge engineering

• Proven background in both project management and business development

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Experience:

• Experience working with county and state-level public clients

• Prior supervisory or department-level leadership experience

Working Conditions:

Primarily office-based role with standard working hours. Minimal travel required. Work environment is professional, collaborative, and conducive to productivity with no hazardous conditions.
